In October, we took a trip to hike part of the Appalachian Trail, and the loop we hiked was about 17 miles long. The first day of the hike we got to the first shelter earlier than we thought we were going to. In the middle of the night we had people that were coming through and set up camp around our shelter. On the second day, we were averaging a 2 or 3 miles per hour so we also go to the second shelter earlier than we thought. While we were there we meet a father and his two older sons that wanted to start a fire by using a bow drill. Unfortunately, the bow drill didn’t work and they had to settle and use a match. Sitting around the fire we made our dinner and in the middle on our dinner there was a hiker that came through. We learned that he was hiking the entire Appalachian Trail starting north and heading south. When leaving the shelter we had a steep climb that lasted a short time but was brutal on the legs. So at the end of the trip everyone had a fun time and enjoyed themselves.
